Boil garlic in milk and drink it all at once: Why you should start doing this
Boiling garlic in milk is a traditional home remedy used in parts of India, Pakistan, and the Mediterranean region. It’s often called “garlic milk” and is usually promoted for colds, coughs, digestion, sleep, or general immunity support.
There are a few reasons people drink it:
- Garlic contains sulfur compounds like allicin, which have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Warm milk can feel soothing for the throat and may promote relaxation before sleep.
- Some people believe the combination helps with:
- mild congestion or cough
- digestion
- blood pressure support
- cholesterol management
- warming the body during illness
That said, the scientific evidence for many of the stronger claims online is limited. Drinking garlic milk is not a cure-all, and it won’t “detox” the body or replace medical treatment.
A simple traditional version is:
- Crush 2–4 garlic cloves.
- Simmer them in 1 cup of milk for 5–10 minutes.
- Drink warm.
Potential downsides:
- Can cause heartburn, bloating, or nausea.
- Garlic may interact with blood-thinning medications.
- Large amounts may irritate the stomach.
If you want the possible benefits without the strong taste, many people add honey or turmeric.
